For years I struggled with the debilitating gut-wrenching pain. It wasn’t always like that though. I used to be a super happy, healthy kid. It wasn't until middle school that gradually I started having issues. My lifestyle and eating habits hadn't changed, but I would have episodes of getting all bound up. I used to be a skinny, healthy weight, but then I started to have a bloated gut. I didn't notice it becoming a problem until one morning when we were at a local diner, and I was unable to eat. I felt so sick. Nothing in, nothing out. My digestive system was as if it were full of cement. Rock-solid.
And it only got worse! It kept happening more and more often. A softball of pain swirled around in my gut like a fireball from hell. When that happened it would last for 8-12 hours. I would be curled up in the fetal position crying and sweating simultaneously from the pain. I tried taking medicine but it didn't touch the pain. There was nothing anyone or anything could do to help. We thought about going to the ER at times but we didn't think they'd be able to help either. I was on a downhill spiral with no end in sight. My only option at that point was to try to sleep it off if at all possible.
Fast forward through years of doctors trying to push prescriptions in my face, I finally found a Polish doctor who could barely speak English. She was a naturopathic doctor who told me that I needed to stay away from "gluten." So I thought to myself, okay, lady, sure, "gluten" whatever that is. Well, it turns out my brilliant doctor was not wrong. She also was WAY ahead of her time. This was before the whole "gluten-free" thing became a fad. Apparently, I was gluten intolerant before it became "a thing." Sooooo it turns out that changing my diet helped immensely.
Fast forward another 10 years and there would still be many nights where I would wake up from what I call "revenge of the gluten." My intestines would HATE me for eating something disagreeable--I wouldn't even know what--earlier that day. (Come on, I had been a "good girl" and avoided all the gluten! I swear!!) Most of the time I couldn’t even figure out what it was that had made me sick. My life was still at the mercy of my intestines.
I felt helpless UNTIL ONE DAY my sister-in-law suggested something to me that a lot of people are talking about lately. To be honest, I was skeptical but desperate. As it turns out, her suggestion was darn near MAGIC! This one instance had a ripple effect, and soon my whole life changed dramatically. Now I can quench that fireball from hell within minutes--sometimes seconds. I no longer have to suffer sleepless nights writhing in pain! I am in control again. I AM FREE! I have broken the hold that was on me, and I’m on a mission to help others do the same in their lives!
